Editing “The Social Network” in Final Cut Pro with Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter

Angus Wall and Kirk Baxter have collaborated with director David Fincher several times before on movies such as “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “Zodiac,” but it’s a safe bet neither has seen such momentum and critic/audience praise as the work they did on editing “The Social Network.” The film has been nominated for an Oscar for editing, and both are happy to have contributed to creating a quite remarkable film.

I had a chance to talk with them for a feature article as well as audio interview. We chatted about handling dozens of takes, working with David Fincher, their favorite scenes from the movie “The Social Network”, incorporating the music of Trent Reznor and if they are nervous about Oscar night.

You can get your podcasts, video, music, books, audio and more out to the masses fairly easily. I’ve been producing podcasts for several years now, such as “Media Artist Secrets,” “Rumor Girls Uncut” and many others for various clients. The process and the steps have changed a bit, and while it is still somewhat of a mystery why some shows get featured and others don’t, there are definitely some steps you can take to help rise to the top.

It’s funny when I talk to fellow producers and directors in my studio, with large monitors with Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 up on the screens, and I ask them how they like iMovie. Sometimes they chuckle, sometimes they have a blank stare, but almost always they have a look of surprise. Well, the joke is usually on them, as iMovie ’11 is one of the most powerful and useful editors on the Mac platform.
